CARAVAL - Blog Tour (Dream Cast)

Blog Tour
Title: Caraval
Author: Stephanie Garber
Publisher: Hodder & Stoughton
Release Date: 31st January 2017 (UK & US)

"Whatever youve heard about Caraval, it doesnt compare to the reality. Its more than just a game or a performance. Its the closest youll ever find to magic in this world."

Welcome to the 5th and final day in the Caraval Blog Tour!
Before we begin, for those of you who might not know much about this wonderful book, here's the synopsis:

Scarlett has never left the tiny island where she and her beloved sister, Tella, live with their ruthless father. Now Scarlett’s father has arranged a marriage for her, and Scarlett thinks her dreams of seeing Caraval, the legendary, once-a-year performance where the audience participates in the show, are over.
Then, Scarlett’s long-dreamt of invitation to Caraval finally arrives. So, Tella enlists a mysterious sailor’s help to whisk Scarlett away to this year’s show. But as soon as the trio arrives, Tella is kidnapped by Caraval’s mastermind organiser, Legend.
Scarlett has been told that everything that happens during Caraval is only an elaborate performance. But she nonetheless soon becomes enmeshed in a game of love, heartbreak, and magic with her sister, with Legend, and with the other players in the game. And whether Caraval is real or not, she must find Tella before the five nights of the game are over, a dangerous domino effect of consequences is set off, and her sister disappears forever.

I'd be surprised if you don't know this already, but I loved Caraval. It was one of my top 10 reads of 2016, and I even wrote a blog post stating 5 reasons why you should pre-order it (you can read that HERE if you wish.)
After finishing this book, the one question in mind (apart from, can I have book 2 now, please!?) was what actors/actresses would fill these roles perfectly, because if you don't know already, Caraval has been optioned for film! (insert squeals of delight)
I'm still debating about my dream cast, so instead here is Stephanie Garber telling us about her dream Caraval cast:
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

"My Dream Cast for Caraval"
The day Caraval sold was one of the most magical days of my life. It was a dream come true to finally sell a book, after years and years of writing and rejection. Then something even more incredible happened, Twentieth Century Fox bought the film option.
I’m not going to lie, ever since then I’ve been fantasizing about who would make up my dream cast.

Scarlet
I love Maria Avgeropoulos’ portrayal of Octavia on the television show The 100—I think she’s fierce but vulnerable, and when I used to watch the show I rooted for her in every scene, so I think she would make an excellent Scarlett.

Donatella
Earlier this year I watched the live action Cinderella starring, because my sister told me the party scene made her think of Caraval. She was totally right. But the party wasn’t the only thing that reminded me of Caraval. When I saw the movie’s star, Lily James, I thought she would be the perfect actress to play Scarlett’s younger and more spontaneous sister, Donatella.

Governer Dragna
Christoph Waltz is one of my favorite actors. I think he plays especially great villains, so I would love to see him portray the role of Scarlett and Donatella’s cruel father, Governor Dragna.

Dante
I know I’ve already mentioned one actor from The 100, but that show has such a great cast I couldn’t help but pick another actor for my dream cast of Caraval. Bob Morley plays Bellamy Blake on the 100, and he has such a strong, commanding presence that I think would make a fantastic Dante. All he needs is some tattoos.

Julian
Julian is one of my favorite characters in Caraval, which is probably why I’ve had the hardest time casting him. So if anyone thinks they’ve found the perfect actor to play Julian please let me know. If Rodrigo Santoro from Westworld were younger I think he would do a great job, but sadly he’s a little too old now.

I don't know about you, but I am loving this dream cast! (I think Stephanie's dream cast has just become my dream cast.) They all fit the bill perfectly!

So we've heard who Stephanie likes, but now it's your turn: Stephanie & I would love to hear who would be part of your dream cast for Caraval! Share your ideas in the comments below!

About the author:

Stephanie Garber loves Disneyland because it’s the one place on earth where she feels as if the fantastical stories she loves to write about could actually come to life. When she's not writing young adult fantasy, she teaches creative writing at a private college in northern California, where she’s known for turning assignments into games and taking students on field trips that involve book signings. Caraval is her first novel for young adults.

  1. Great cast! I agree about Waltz, but because I don't know the other actors here are my suggestions: Mia Wasikowska could be Scarlett, and Cara DeLevingne could be Donatella. Dante, Evan Peters. And as Julian, Kit Harrington.

    2. Right?! Oh I can't wait for the movie, or the next book. Nothing will ever be the same as reading Caraval for the first time, but I need something and soon

  2. I think that for Julian Richard Madden from GOT and the Prince in Cinderella we pull be fantastic! Also I've always been partial to casting Garret Hedlund in every male cast I find dreamy haha... I never use that word. I am nearly done with the book and in my head I just kept thinking wow this is amazing imagery and would make a great movie and then I find out there's gonna be a movie! YES!!!

  3. So excited for Caraval to be made into a movie! When I was reading, I always pictured Julian as rodrigo santoro, but agree he's too old for the role now. I also think Nicholas Galitzine from the movie high strung would be a great Julian. Nothing a little hair dye can't fix ;)

  15. I love the cast. I was hoping I could audition for Scarlett but I guess since someone else was found I guess there goes my dream. I'm sorry if that sounded selfisha dn rude. I just really wanted to audition for Scarlett in Caraval. Or if Legendary was made into a movie I would love to audition for Tella. I am a huge (and when I say huge I mean obbessed). I have always wanted to act but never had a chance and nothing seemed interesting to me. I would do anything and I mean litteraly anything to play Scarlett or Tella. If someone could show this to Ms.Stephanie I would greatly apperciate it. I would love to contact her about auditioning for the movie. that is if there is one. Thanks for anyone who made it this far and have a magical day.
